Goodwill

43 A deep sense of awe came over them all, and the apostles performed many miraculous signs and wonders. 44 And all the believers met together constantly and shared everything they had. 45 They sold their possessions and shared the proceeds with those in need. 46 They worshiped together at the Temple each day, met in homes for the Lord's Supper, and shared their meals with great joy and generosity—47 all the while praising God and enjoying the goodwill of all the people. And each day the Lord added to their group those who were being saved. (Acts 2: 43-47, New Living Translation)

Application

These verses come directly following the birth of the church. The thing that catches my attention here is that the last sentence. As Christians, we believe that there is life in Jesus. I am not talking about getting a life I am talking about life. It is like looking at a tree budding in the spring, a flowing brook surrounded by green or even a baby in their daddy’s arms. I believe the first church knew this life and walked in it. They met together all the time so that they could share this life with each other, not only in terms of money but also their soul (emotions) and spirit (our part that connects with God). They were in awe of the things that God was doing. I believe, as the church today, we need to come back to this place of being with each other and ‘enjoying the goodwill of people.’ The people were encouraged so that they could talk to their friends about Jesus and that is how God was adding new people everyday. May God show us how to be people like that.

Now what…?

Spend sometime with other Christians this week and encourage them with goodwill and love.
